Welcome!
Increasing technological progress should not lead to exclusion of single persons or groups. To guarantee this at an European level the European Commission established the initiative eEurope . This initiative attempts to reach and ensure a better accessibility for all - especially in areas of information society - with several actions.
One issue of the eEurope action plan was to ensure the establishment and networking of national centers of excellence in design-for-all and create recommendations for a European curriculum for designers and engineers.
Therefore in accordance with one of the specific goals of the eEurope Action Plan 2002 the EDeAN (European Design for All e-Accessibility) was established in July 2002 with national contact centers of excellence (NCCs) in the 15 Member States. The goal of this action is to raise the profile of Design for All and emphasize its importance in achieving greater e-Accessibility.
Design für Alle - Deutschland is the German contact center of EDeAN.
The German NCC Design für Alle - Deutschland is a joint effort of the Working Area Universal Design of the Forschungsinstitut Technologie-Behindertenhilfe (FTB) and the Competence Center BIKA of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT) as partners.
Both institutes are directly working together with other experts and self help groups in the German project Aktionsbündnis für barrierefreie Informationstechnik (AbI) in order to support the realization of accessibility in information technology.
